Gymnastics: USA and Biles take team gold

The U.S. posted a score of 184.897, more than eight points clear of silver medalist Russian Federation and almost nine more than bronze medalist China while winning its second straight Olympic title and third overall, a margin greater than the one that propelled the "Fierce Five" to victory in London four years ago. Starting in 2020, teams will be comprised of four members for the team competition, with the opportunity to qualify up to two additional gymnasts as specialists for event finals. And not just edging out their competitors by a few tenths, but leading the competition from start to finish and claiming victory by multiple points.

So while it's a long shot, the topic of a Hernandez upset on beam is at least open for debate.

Are you excited to watch Aly Raisman compete in the Women's Individual All-Around Final and the Floor Exercise Final?

The American women have now medaled in the women's team final at the past seven Olympics.

Laurie Hernandez winked at the judges before her floor routine and became probably the best GIF of the 2016 games.

Led by overwhelming all-around favourite Simone Biles, the U.S. scored 184.897 to retain their crown and win a fifth successive global title.

Appeals Court Stays Ruling on Voter ID
Attorney General Brad Schimel, who has been defending the state's law, said in a statement that he is pleased with the decision. The affidavit would allow voters to check a box for why they were not able to obtain a photo ID, including simply "other".

Douglas validated her controversial selection with a strong bars routine Tuesday. Biles just likes to have a little more fun with hers. This is also the final team to be coordinated by Martha Karolyi before her upcoming retirement.

Next for the United States was the balance beam.

Madison Kocian lead team US on the uneven bars with a score of 15.933, landing an unbelievable dismount. Team captain Aly Raisman, Simone Biles, Gabby Douglas, Laurie Hernandez and Madison Kocian fulfilled their Olympic destiny with 12 flawless routines Tuesday afternoon.

The Americans stand to build on that total with more medals later this week.

Led by Simone Biles, who competed on all four apparatuses, the USA posted the highest total scores on the each apparatus-even beating the normally-dominant Russians on their best event, the uneven bars. Biles scored a 15.300 on beam.

"Obviously the United States of America are much stronger now but in the future we will challenge again for first place", said Mustafina, who won four medals in London.

The 18-year-old goalkeeper is named in place of the injured Keylor Navas, but Kiko Casilla is likely to start. In total, the head-to-head statistics read 32 Real wins, four draws and 13 victories in the Sevilla tally.

It was a return to the top of the podium again for Douglas, 20, who took two gold in 2012 but lost her all-around title after missing the cut for Thursday's final.

At times - mostly because of star Simone Biles' unrivaled power - the Americans looked like a unit competing in a different era. If she could get at least a 7.591 she would secure the gold medal for the United States, and she nearly doubled it earning a 15.8.

In London, the Fierce Five held hands as they stared at the scoreboard and cried as the results came up.

It has the potential to sweep the golds, something no country has done since individual events were added to the Olympic competition in 1952.

"The key now is getting enough rest", Raisman, 22, said after Tuesday's team final.

Russia, spearheaded by Aliya Mustafina, took silver as in 2012.
