Tropical Storm Lester is also headed away from land in the Pacific Ocean, forecasters said.

The tropical wave that has gotten the most attention this week is Invest 99L. But the chance of the system strengthening into a tropical depression or tropical storm Saturday or Sunday is now just 30%. There's a 60 percent or "medium" chance the formation will organize over the next five days, which is down from 80 percent on Wednesday. "Until then, the National Hurricane Center will likely not name it Tropical Storm Hermine".

99L wasn't in a very good location to get its act together, but the environment could be a bit more favorable early next week when it gets to the Gulf.

Forecasters are warning residents in Florida and along the eastern Gulf Coast to keep an eye on the system's possible development.

Gaston, which formed off the northern coast of Africa earlier this week, strengthened into a hurricane early Thursday morning. "Interests in the northwestern Bahamas and Florida should monitor the progress of this disturbance since it is increasing likely that some impacts, at a minimum heavy rains and gusty winds, will occur beginning this weekend".

As of midday Saturday, the storm was about 210 miles southeast of Miami.

The third system being watched is a broad area of low pressure centered a little over a hundred miles south-southwest of Bermuda. By Saturday, Gaston is expected to be upgraded to a category 1 hurricane, with wind speeds ranging between 74 to 95 miles per hour (64 to 82 kts).

There is the chance that this system holds together enough to eventually make it into the eastern Gulf near Florida.

The hurricane center said dry air near 91L could slow its development.

Hurricane Gaston picked up strength Sunday as it swirled in the Atlantic east of Bermuda, the US National Hurricane Center (NHC) reported.

The storm now packs sustained winds of 40 miles (65 kilometers) per hour, but could gain strength and become a hurricane by Monday. "This forecast will continue to change each day, so stay aware of the changes".
