Authorities in North Las Vegas are baffled after a murder suspect escaped their custody as he was being interrogated in an interview room.

Perez, 25, who also uses the name Alfonso Perez, broke free from handcuffs Friday and bolted from a police detective bureau following his arrest for questioning in the August 27 slaying outside a McDonald's restaurant.

Somehow, in the time he was left alone, Perez turned his wrists until the steel handcuffs immobilizing his arms snapped altogether, police said in a statement.

He then allegedly stole a vehicle and fled. He is distinguished by a 3-inch "Air Jordan" logo on the left side of his neck.

Patty cautions anyone who comes into contact with Perez to not confront him and instead call the North Las Vegas police. "This is an extremely unfortunate circumstance".

Patty said the department will take a closer look at the details of Perez's escape.
