Fresno State and Jeff Tedford are reportedly close on a deal to make him the Bulldogs' next head coach.

According to the Fresno Bee, the former Cal coach has reached an agreement to be Fresno's new head coach.

The former Fresno State quarterback and Cal head coach will face an uphill battle trying to rejuvenate a program that has been nothing short of awful the last three seasons.

Tedford also served as the Bulldogs' offensive coordinator from 1993 to 1997. He spent 11 years at Cal, producing 10 winning seasons and four Top 25 finishes before being forced out in 2012.

Tedford was originally hired to be the offensive coordinator for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before the 2014 season but took a leave of absence because of heart surgery and parted ways with the team in December of that year.

Arroyo joined the Oklahoma State coaching staff in 2015.

Some of the quarterbacks Tedford has worked with include Trent Dilfer, David Carr, Akili Smith, Joey Harrington, Kyle Boller and Aaron Rodgers.

Tedford made a name for himself as a head coach by resurrecting the Cal program in the 2000s.

Fresno State now sits at 1-9, and last in the West Division of the Mountain West.

A source confirmed to KSEE 24 that the Bulldogs are planning to introduce Tedford as the 18th coach in the program's history at a press conference scheduled for Friday.
