A fitness trainer at a gym in Coral Gables, Fla., opened fire, wounding two coworkers before he turned the gun on himself on Saturday, witnesses said.

Coral Gables Police Chief Edward J. Hudak told Local 10 News the incident stemmed from a managerial dispute that prompted the former gym employee to target two others who also worked at the fitness center.

The Miami-Dade Fire Rescue helicopter landed at the nearby Coral Gables Senior High School's sports field and took the two wounded to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center.

Alvaro Zabaleta of the Miami-Dade Police Department said in an email to news organizations that detectives were called to the scene of a shooting along South Lejeune Road in Coral Gables. There was no immediate word on when mall activities would return to normal.

The newspaper said about 100 people were eating at Yard House's outdoor patio when the shooting began. "It was never chaotic".

Hartog said employees were allowed to clean and shut down the restaurant for the day, and were told to go home afterward.

The shooting occurred around 1pm at the Shops at Merrick Park mall. He said the mall was closed until Sunday.

"I saw an African American guy, very tall, with a black shirt and black shorts", she said.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the families impacted by this bad tragedy".
