Australia off to ideal Davis Cup start after Jordan Thompson's four-setter.

Nick Kyrgios has continued his stellar form to defeat big-serving American John Isner in straight sets and put Australia on the brink of the Davis Cup's final four.

Kyrgios came from a break down in the first set, broke Isner to love in the 11th game, and clinched the set on an ace.

Kyrgios looked confident and untroubled throughout his encounter with Isner.

American captain Jim Courier said on Friday night that the United States team would "rally" around Sock, a former Wimbledon doubles champion, after he had finished with energy tanks near empty in a four-set loss to the lower-ranked Jordan Thompson.

Kyrgios is due to face Sock in Sunday's opening reverse singles rubber - although Hewitt is anticipating another curve ball from the U.S. after the world No.15 was a late replacement for Sam Querrey in the doubles.
