Joss Whedon is in talks to direct a Batgirl movie

On Thursday, the comic book world was sent into a frenzy when it was reported that "Avengers" director Joss Whedon was in talks to bring DC's Batgirl back to the big screen.

In a stunning development, Variety is reporting that Joss Whedon has been enlisted to helm a Batgirl solo feature for Warner Bros., which will be the latest entry to their ever-growing DC Films Universe. Picture Groups, Toby Emmerich, is working on overseeing the project along with Geoff Johns and Jon Berg.

It remains unclear when the Batgirl film would go into production or hit theaters. After playing an influential part in the early success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies, Whedon parted ways with Marvel Studios in 2016 after the somewhat tepid reaction to Ultron.

Stock to avoid today: Lululemon Athletica inc.(NASDAQ: LULU)
On average, equities analysts forecast that Lululemon Athletica inc . will post $2.15 EPS for the current fiscal year. Wall Street's reaction was swift, weighing in with at least two stock downgrades and several price target reductions.

Whedon is no stranger to superhero movies of course.

After Whedon's involvement became known, an article from Entertainment Weekly revealed that Whedon's Batgirl movie would star Barbara Gordon, the daughter of Commissioner James Gordon (portrayed by J.K. Simmons in the upcoming Justice League). He previously made a name for himself on television, creating series like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly, and Dollhouse.

As to Batgirl herself, she comes in many flavors within the comics and often depicted as Batman's sidekick along with Robin.

Cummings also communicated his disappointment that House Republicans were not engaging with the possible security vulnerabilities. Other dinner guests posted pictures of the group reviewing documents to social media.

Batgirl has starred in a handful of Batman movies in the past but has yet to have her own flick, which is odd considering she's one of the most popular DC characters.

Whedon put together the first two Avengers films.

The first female superhero standalone film, Wonder Woman, will debut on June 2nd, 2017.
