Mom Diane Aluska - who had three kids and worked for the town of Babylon in the clerk's office - pushed her youngest daughter from harm's way just in the nick of time, police said.

That's when Diane noticed a Toyota Corolla heading veering towards them, and instantly her motherly instincts kicked in.

Police said the incident "appears to be non-criminal" and "just a awful accident".

According to the New York Daily News, the mother was walking to her auto with her 16-year-old daughter, Jenna, after Sunday Mass. Aluska sacrificed her life for her daughter, pushing her out of harm's way, according to police and witnesses. Meanwhile, Jenna suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Upon returning from the hospital, he said his wife had saved their daughter's life. "She left it in reverse, hit the gas, started speeding backwards, lost control, and jumped the sidewalk".

"(The elderly woman) thought that she had put it in drive. The accident happened right in front of the Lindenhurst Fire Department.

Riolo's vehicle was impounded for a safety check, according to NBC New York.

Both women were taken to the Good Samaritan Hospital where Aluska died. We are keeping her daughter, Jenna and her family in our thoughts and prayers.
