Reaction to the death of music legend Gregg Allman

Drug addiction, tragic deaths and divorce dented his personal life. Their gritty and soulful sounds blended rock, country, and gospel-tinged R&B to help establish the expansive genre that we call Southern Rock.

Among those paying tribute to Gregg Allman after his death on Saturday (May 28), was Charlie Daniels, a fellow Southern rock icon who crossed paths many times with Allman over the years. He co-wrote many songs with Gregg Allman - including "End Of The Line", "All Night Train", "Sailin' Across The Devil's Sea", "Firing Line" and "High Cost Of Love Living" - for latter-day Allmans albums. The Grammy-winning Rock and Roll Hall of Famer who gained fame with The Allman Brothers Band and went on to craft hits with The Gregg Allman Band showcased the timeless power of Southern rock for almost half a century.

Gregg and Duane spent their early childhood in their birthplace, Nashville, Tennessee, listening to a blues radio station. After forming their first band, the Allman Joys, in the mid-'60s, they relocated to Los Angeles, where Liberty Records attempted to groom Gregg for a solo career. Allman mastered the Hammond B-3 electric organ and added it to the mix.

Colorado man to be freed early now in immigration custody
As The Colorado Independent has previously reported, sheriffs in all 64 of Colorado's counties agree not to hold inmates for ICE. Under a 1984 agreement, Cuba agreed to take back 2,746 of their citizens who came to the United States as part of the boat lift.

Their self-titled debut album came out in 1969, but it was their seminal live album "At Fillmore East" in 1971 that catapulted the band to stardom. Still reeling, the band finished its next album, Eat A Peach, which enjoyed commercial success and was the last album to feature Duane. That just shows the kind of friend Gregg was.

Cher was married to the "Whipping Post" singer for five years from 1975 to 1979.

Although Leavell parted ways with Allman Brothers Band before the release of the 1976 live LP Wipe the Windows, Check the Oil, Dollar Gas, he remained part of the band's orbit, performing alongside Dickey Betts and Gov't Mule.

North Korea-linked hackers 'highly likely' behind WannaCry: Symantec
The earlier versions and WannaCry largely the same, with some minor changes, chiefly the incorporation of the EternalBlue exploit. However, KasperskyLab experts fell short of naming North Korea an actual perpetrator, citing lack of evidence.

The Allman Brothers Band likewise split up in the 1980s and then re-formed several times over the years.

We've lost a heck of a lot of musical heroes in recent times and today comes news that we've lost another in Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, and one of my favourites, Gregg Allman. They toured extensively and started a yearly tradition at Manhattan's Beacon Theatre - the so-called "Beacon Run"- that had fans making yearly pilgrimages every spring. Allman would eventually go a liver transplant in 2010.

Allman is survived by his wife, Shannon, children, Elijah Blue, Delilah Island Kurtom and Layla Brooklyn Allman; three grandchildren, one niece, lifelong friend Chank Middleton, and a large extended family. The family will release a statement soon, but for now ask for privacy during this very hard time.
