Spanish court orders Barca's Neymar to stand trial for fraud

Barcelona star Neymar is set for a date in court on corruption charges relating to his 2013 transfer from Brazilian club Santos, with prosecutors recommending he serve a two-year jail sentence.

However, charges of corruption remain with the defendants including the player, his parents, Josep Bartomeu (current FC Barcelona president), Sandro Rosell (former president of FC Barcelona), FC Barcelona, and NN Consultoria (Neymar's company) still facing trial.

Neymar and his parents are to stand trial over alleged fraud and corruption.

Neymar's arrival from Brazil's Santos has been a huge success for the Spanish champions on the pitch but a judicial nightmare off it.

The transfer has given rise to several investigations in Spain and Brazil.

Barcelona said at the time of Neymar's move that the transfer figure was 57.1 million euros, of which 40 million was paid to Neymar's family.

A month earlier, Barcelona agreed to pay a 5.5 million-euro fine to settle a separate case in which the club was accused of tax evasion over the transfer. In the Spanish legal system prison terms of under two years are suspended for first-time offenders.

Lehtera had two assists in Game 5 of the first-round series, a 4-3 overtime win that earned the Blues a berth in the second round. Through seven games this post-season, though, it seems offensive depth is also one of this Nashville team's strengths.

Santos and DIS maintained they had lost out on millions, with the latter claiming to be owed around €16m more than its €6.8m payment.

They are also seeking fines of €10million against Neymar's family.

Yet the trial will do nothing to improve Barcelona's image, after teammates Lionel Messi and Javier Mascherano were both handed suspended jail sentences for similar offences.

Neymar signed a bumper new deal with the club to extend his contract until 2021 in July 2016 despite admitting he held talks with Paris Saint-Germain amidst interest from a host of top European clubs in luring him away.
