White House says no determination yet on 'Dreamer' immigrants

Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly quietly announced the program will continue at the bottom of a fact sheet released late Thursday declaring the end to a similar, but never-implemented program meant to shield immigrant parents of USA citizens and legal residents from deportation.

The Department of Homeland Security announced Thursday night that the Obama administration's amnesty program for illegal immigrants brought to the U.S.as children will remain in effect.

No decision on that program's future has been made, according to the White House. Homeland Security John Kelly formally revoked a policy memo that created the Deferred Action for Parents of Americans programme.

Student released by North Korea arrives in Ohio
In addition to Warmbier, three other USA nationals remain in North Korean custody on various allegations of espionage. Warmbier said he accepted the offer because his family was "suffering from very severe financial difficulties".

The action allows undocumented immigrants who entered the U.S.as children (during a certain time period) to remain in the country, attend school, and work, if they meet certain requirements.

"They chose the fifth anniversary of DACA to do this", Obama administration veteran Cecilia Munoz tweeted shortly after the announcement. Trump had also pledged to "immediately" cancel that program, known as Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA.

The program has granted temporary work permits and reprieves from deportation to almost 800,000 people living in the USA illegally. "Many working class Americans voted for President Trump because of his promise to combat illegal immigration and secure U.S.jobs for American workers". They would have been kept safe from deportation and provided with renewable work permits.

Trump says he'll hold Cuban gov't 'accountable'
President Donald Trump on Friday is expected to announce changes to existing USA policy toward Cuba during a trip to Miami . Across the way, protesters held up signs deriding Trump's decision to rollback the Obama administration's Cuba initiative.

"The rescission blocks much-needed deportation relief for our families, as they will be vulnerable to Trump's deportation machine", said Cesar Vargas, co-director of the Dream Action Coalition.

Immigration activists have praised Trump's decision to allow the DACA program to continue. By keeping open the possibility of ending DACA, though, he preserves his bargaining power - i.e., his ability, perhaps, to get something from Democrats in exchange for a final decision to retain DACA.

President Donald Trump has said his administration was developing a plan on how to deal with individuals covered by DACA, but no formal changes have been announced. A Texas court blocked it at the request of a coalition of 26 state attorneys general.

Trump changes travel ban expiration date ahead of high court decision
The White House delayed the effective date of its revised travel ban to avoid mooting its case as the U.S. This story has not been edited by Firstpost staff and is generated by auto-feed.

The DAPA program, like the one for young immigrants, was created with a policy memo, not by legislation. "Despite the Trump administration saying that DACA is going to continue as it is, it doesn't really guarantee that they're not going to take it away in what's left of his presidency".
