Amid North Korean missile threat, Alabama plays vital role

U.S. Department of Defense (KODIAK, Alaska) - The U.S. conducted a successful test of a missile-defense system over the Pacific Ocean, military officials announced Sunday morning.

"In addition to a successful target intercept data collected will allow the missile defense Agency to improve the defense system THAAD, our modeling capabilities and the ability to stay ahead of the evolving threat", said Lieutenant General of the air force Sam greaves, Director of the Agency of missile defense. "China is opposed to North Korea's launch activities in violation of U.N. Security Council resolutions and against the will of the worldwide community", Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said.

North Korea's missile test has prompted Seoul to deploy four additional THAAD units, according to a Reuters report.

North Korea said it tested a ballistic missile that can reach all of the United States.

DHS: Laptop ban put in place after explosive test destroyed airplane
DHS Secretary John Kelly told NBC that his team had tested the potential of a laptop bomb to bring down an airplane and found strong evidence affirming that possibility.

It was sacked by an Air Force Plane and intercepted by the defense system. Following the launch, the US and South Korean militaries responded by firing surface-to-surface missiles amid increasing tensions on the peninsula.

The exercise comes not long after North Korea test-fired its second intercontinental ballistic missile this month.

Meant as a "stern warning" to Washington, according to North Korean state media, Friday's launch aimed for "maximum distance".

"We assess that this missile was an intercontinental ballistic missile, as had been expected", Pentagon spokesman Jeff Davis said in a statement.

"We have a responsibility to our allies and our nation to showcase our unwavering commitment while planning for the worst-case scenario". In a joint statement earlier this month they called on Washington to immediately halt deployment of THAAD in South Korea. It can shoot down short, medium and intermediate ballistic missiles.

The U.S. Army launched the missile Sunday over the Pacific Ocean.

"I am very disappointed in China. China could easily solve this problem!" the tweets read.

Authorities say the exercise was successful and will help the USA stay ahead of the evolving threat.
