As monsoon moves over to the north, northern districts of the state such as Idar, Deesa should get ready to witness heavy rain for the next 24 hours. At least 650 people were rescued from the Banaskantha district on Wednesday out of which, 272 were airlifted, reports TOI. The weather department has predicted heavy to very heavy rain at several places across the state in the next two days.

Two army columns, three teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and one Border Security Force (BSF) team are carrying out rescue operations in the Banaskantha district.

These helicopters are also used for dropping and supply of relief material (food, water and medicines) to villages inaccessible by road to the rescue teams operating on ground. Sabarkantha in north Gujarat recorded the maximum 219 millimetres, followed by Banaskantha with 150 millimetres.

Ranvijay Singh, a government official, says hundreds of rescuers using motor boats saved 789 people, including some pregnant women, from being swept away by the swirling flood waters in six districts in Gujarat state. They have already evacuated 36,000 people from affected areas.

It is reported 20 Gujarat state highways are submerged, while train services between the state capital Ahmedabad and New Delhi have been suspended after tracks flooded.
