(Waukee) - State economic development officials Thursday morning awarded almost 20 million dollars in tax incentives to Apple, which plans to place two data centers in the Des Moines suburb of Waukee.

"This new data center will play a very important role in the App Store's continued success", Cook said.

The Iowa economic development authority board awarded $19.65 million in investment tax credits to Apple at a specially called meeting Thursday morning.

The Statehouse event came a few hours after state and local officials had approved incentives to help land the project after a 20-month search process. Tech giants, Google, Facebook and Microsoft have already set up data centers inthe state. The City of Waukee will manage the fund for, "parks, libraries and recreational spaces, as well as infrastructure needs". Along with splurging on the data center, the company will also create a $100 million public fund to improve infrastructure in the area.

"For the past 20 months, Apple has been searching for the ideal location, and I am so proud to say that they found it right here in Iowa", Gov. Kim Reynolds said Thursday.
