CPM using cadres to 'eliminate' Kerala rivals, says Jaitley

Union Minister Arun Jaitley landed in Kerala Sunday morning, where he was felicitated by the state party leader. "The kind of wounds inflicted would have even embarrassed a terrorist", Jaitley said after meeting the family members of E Rajesh, 34, who was hacked to death a week ago.

He even requested the Chief Minister to curb the political violence in the state and said, "I expect that the political violence in Kerala is curbed and that the perpetrators are brought to justice expeditiously".

Jaitley, who drove from the airport to Rajesh's home, met his wife, two children and other family members.

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) on Saturday accused the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM) for the killing of the former's party worker in Kerala and said the state government is patronising hooligans and added that a Talibani war is going on in the state. "What is needed is political will, and determination by the state government to discipline its own cadres rather than let them loose on political opponents, " he said. "I am here to express my solidarity on behalf of our party", he added.

The minister also slammed double-standards adopted by critics of the BJP on the issue of political violence in Kerala. He also alleged that he didn't visit the houses of CPM leaders and councillors, who were attacked during the recent violence.

Jaitley will also meet RSS leader Jayprakash, who was brutally injured in a CPM attack, some eight months back.

"The party's next State conference will be held in Thrissur from February 23 to 28, 2018".

CPI-M District Secretary of Thiruvananthapuram, Anavoor Nagappan, told the media that 21 family members of CPI-M activists, who were allegedly killed by RSS workers were among the protesters outside the Raj Bhavan on Sunday.

The RSS leadership has favoured imposition of President's rule in the state on the ground that the law and order situation had collapsed under the LDF government led by Pinarayi Vijayan. Among these, a roughly equal number of workers from the CPI (M) and the RSS-BJP were killed - 30 from the former and 31 from the latter. Incidentally, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has convened an all- party meeting this evening to discuss the issue of increasing political violence. The nine arrested persons in connection with the case are under the police custody for evidence collection and further interrogation.
