Animal rescue advocates in Texas scrambled on Friday to protect or evacuate pets and livestock ahead of Hurricane Harvey, which threatened the lives of thousands of animals in its path.

The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of Texas says it took in 123 un-owned cats from The Cattery Cat Shelter in Corpus Christi, which was forced to evacuate.
