Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, who began his second term on Saturday after being re-elected in May, harshly attacked the USA regarding the nuclear deal during his inauguration speech.

On Thursday, Rouhani vowed to focus on economic growth of the country as he was endorsed by the Iranian Supreme Leader as Iranian president for his second term.

Britain, France and Germany who signed the deal alongside Russia, China and the United States remain firm backers of the agreement and are eagerly seeking to rebuild trade ties with Iran despite logistical problems caused by US sanctions.

Meeting with Mogherini before the ceremony in parliament, Rouhani called for greater efforts to uphold the 2015 nuclear deal struck by Tehran and world powers in the face of new United States sanctions passed last week.

Religious, military, and political leaders attended the August 3 ceremony, which was broadcast on Iranian state television. French company Total defied United States pressure in July by signing a multibillion-dollar gas deal with Iran.

In what appeared to be a direct dig at President Donald Trump, Rouhani said, "We do not wish to engage with those who are newcomers to the political arena but wish to tell the veteran politicians and diplomats we can maintain and continue working in the framework of the joint plan".

Sri Lanka Parliament speaker Karu arrived in Tehran on Saturday to attend President Hassan Rouhani's swearing-in ceremony which is scheduled to be held in Tehran this afternoon.

That resolution was adopted in July 2015 to endorse a nuclear agreement between Iran and six other countries, including the three European states.
