Ophelia is the 10 tropical storm in a row to reach the status of a hurricane in the Atlantic Ocean this season, a record that was met in the years 1878, 1886 and 1893.

Ophelia had winds of 70 miles per hour and could "become a hurricane at any time today or tomorrow", the hurricane center said.

"A motion toward the east-northeast and east is forecast to occur later tonight, followed by a turn toward the east-southeast on Tuesday", says the U.S. National Hurricane Center.
