Apple pushes back release of HomePod speaker to 2018

The American company Apple has postponed the release date of its smart HomePod column from the end of 2017 to early 2018.

"We cannot wait for people to start using HomePod, which is a breakthrough of Apple's wireless loudspeakers for home, but we need a little more time before it is ready for our customers".

In a statement to The Verge, Apple said that it needs more time to work on the HomePod. More than the customers who wish to try out the new product from Apple, it is probably the competing products, like Amazon Echo and Google Home who are waiting with bated breath to see the new device in the market.

Apple is working to keep its Siri voice assistant relevant in the face of competition from Amazon's Alexa and Alphabet's Google Assistant, both of which are featured on smart speakers from those companies. Although developers can make apps for Siri and HomePod, they're now limited to building things like lists, notes, and messaging.

"HomePod packs powerful speaker technology, Siri intelligence and wireless access to the entire Apple Music library into a handsome speaker that is less than 7 inches tall, can rock most any room with distortion-free music and be a helpful assistant around your home". Amazon's smart speakers have been quite popular since the release of the original Echo 2015.

But Apple could still have a surprise or two in store.
