Ex-Packer Martellus Bennett heads back to New England Patriots

After getting cut by the Packers on Wednesday for "failure to disclose a medical condition" and signing with the Patriots on Thursday, Martellus Bennett gave his side of the story about how his time in Green Bay ended in a long, expletive-filled rant on Instagram.

The Packers had high hopes for Martellus Bennett, who signed a 3-year, $21 million contract with the team. According to Rapoport, the 30-year-old could try to play through the injury, but should his efforts be unsuccessful, New England could then put him on injured reserve.

Bennett played through a broken foot during the 2016 season when he helped the Patriots win Super Bowl LI.

Bennett made headlines earlier this season when he raised his fist and then sat down on the players bench during the national anthem.

The Patriots face the Broncos in Denver on Sunday night.

During the Packers' bye week he indicated on an Instagram post that he would likely retire after this season.

Coach Mike McCarthy leaned heavily on Bennett, who played on 83 percent of snaps. "I don't think it's right to judge that, either", McCarthy said.
