Rays Trade 3B Evan Longoria to Giants

According to Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times, the Rays traded Evan Longoria to the San Francisco Giants Wednesday. Arroyo was a possibility to take over third base in 2018, but the Giants have decided on Longoria instead. For a team already loaded with aging veterans, the trade for Longoria carries significant risk for the Giants, as Longoria, 32, has shown signs of entering a decline phase, posting career-low numbers in 2017; he is, however, just a year removed from a 36-homer, .521-slugging season in 2016. Last season he posted a solid WAR, but he hasn't played at an MVP caliber level since 2013, and the Giants don't need that to upgrade, but they will need that for them to contend. "He's been one of the most consistent third basemen in the game", Bochy said. Despite all of this the Giants still remain a team which appears below par in a division which features the reigning NL Champions and the Rockies and Diamondbacks on the rise.

Evan Longoria is San Francisco-bound. The Giants are likely to be serious bidders for at least one of the big-name free agents still available. Longoria started all 30 of the Rays' postseason games at third.

In November 2012, Longoria received a $136.6 million, 10-year contract with Tampa Bay that added six guaranteed seasons and $100 million to his previous deal. "For a decade, he's been at the center of all of our successes, and it's a very emotional parting for us all", Rays principal owner Stuart Sternberg said. "I speak for our entire organization in wishing Evan and his wonderful family our absolute best".

Curbello later went on to tell a CBS affiliate reporter that she had turned to smoking to try to quell her anxiety. The station also announced that Curbelo is now booked in the Sacramento county jail for making criminal threats.

Rays general manager Erik Neander said trading Longoria "was in the best long-term interest of our franchise". However, Span has just one more year on his contract, so he will be off their books by 2019. Tampa Bay drafted him out of Long Beach State, with the third overall pick of the 2006 draft.

Arroyo is now ranked as the number 57 prospect in baseball, according to MLB.com.

As part of the assignment bonus, Tampa Bay owes Longoria $1.5 million on December 15, 2025, and $2 million on December 15 in each of the following four years. However, he missed all of 2017 after surgery on his Achilles. Arroyo was apparently the best prospect they could get back.

Several flights in and out of NI cancelled
Heathrow administration suggested that passengers check the status of their flights prior to traveling to the airport. In a statement today, British Airways said: " Heathrow is continuing to experience severe adverse weather conditions.

Obviously, trading Longoria was a hard move for the Rays, but it was necessary for the future of the team.

After losing out on the Giancarlo Stanton sweepstakes, the Giants assured fans that they would continue to look for ways to upgrade the team. He was stellar at third baseman for a franchise that has for years pushed good defense and good pitching as its formula. Longoria alone won't turn things around for the Giants after a brutal 2017 season.
