Synaptics will provide in-display fingerprint sensors for Vivo smartphones

In case you missed it, Vivo is using Synaptics's newest on-screen fingerprint sensor, which was revealed few days ago. A lot of people speculated that Samsung is going to be that brand because it faced a lot of heat past year for the awkward placement of fingerprint sensor on the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus.

"Consumers prefer fingerprint authentication on the front of the phone, and with the industry quickly shifting to bezel-free OLED infinity displays, the natural placement of the fingerprint sensor is in the display itself", Kevin Barber, senior vice president, and general manager, Mobile Division, Synaptics said in a statement.

Moorhead further stated that in-display fingerprint sensors on smartphones weren't available so far due to manufacturing issues.

No free trial for PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds Xbox One launch, 'prioritizing server stability'
It's just plain hard to hit your target using a controller, and the game can feel a little slushy as a result. The buttons of the Xbox One controller perform different actions depending on the context of the situation.

In terms of the security, Moorhead has also clarified that Synaptics has built-in a separate encryption module to the Clear ID sensor while also allowing the hardware to interact with the phone's processor for authenticating the fingerprint.

Now Chinese smartphone maker Vivo will be the first to show off an in-screen fingerprint display in its next phone, according to an analyst who's seen a pre-production device.

"The Clear ID experience was fast and simple", McDonald said in an opinion piece. In order for the technology to work, the finger has to be illuminated, so the scanner can read the reflection on the finger scan. It's the reason we're seeing Face ID on the iPhone X and this horribly placed fingerprint sensor on the Galaxy S8 and Note 8. Manufacturers like Apple are instead going with fingerprint sensor, while others like Samsung and OnePlus have moved it to the back of the smartphone - not the most convenient location.

Several flights in and out of NI cancelled
Heathrow administration suggested that passengers check the status of their flights prior to traveling to the airport. In a statement today, British Airways said: " Heathrow is continuing to experience severe adverse weather conditions.

Synaptics claims Clear ID is two-times faster than alternative biometrics like 3D facial recognition found on Apple's iPhone X. Of course, we'll have to wait for this mystery smartphone launch to find out more.

Vivo isn't particularly well-known in Western markets, but is popular in India as the fourth-biggest smartphone maker and holds a similar position in China. This is clearly setting a path for more smartphones to come with an "all-screen" design that integrates the fingerprint scanner with the display.
