Purdue tops Butler 76-73 to advance to Sweet 16

The second-seeded Purdue Boilermakers are moving on to the Sweet 16, with a 76-73 win over the No. 10 Butler Bulldogs on Sunday. The game was played at a breakneck pace early, with the teams racing up and down the court and hitting 5 of 7 from beyond the arc combined in the opening minutes.

"Every day at practice, this group, they came and they embraced and they were willing to learn", Butler coach LaVall Jordan said.

Certainly, Haas' availability would be enormous for the Boilermakers not only because he's averaging 14.7 points and 5.7 rebounds, but because he totally changes the game with his presence inside on both ends of the floor.

Haas practiced in a brace, and it's not impossible that he could suit up and play against Butler on Sunday. "You've just got to stay positive when you're doing good things because the law of averages, they're going to balance out". It's the first time the Boilermakers have started those five players together this season.

The escape from Syria's Eastern Ghouta in pictures
Almost 1,400 civilians have been killed since Damascus launched its military operation in eastern Ghouta on February 18. Elsewhere, however, it said the regime overran Al-Rihan town in an assault led by Russian officers and advisers.

"This one's for Isaac, wishing him a speedy recovery", Haarms said. "He's always in my ear and a great mentor".

That could be encouraging news for the second-seeded Boilermakers, who announced Friday that Haas would miss the rest of the NCAA Tournament with a broken elbow. He didn't on Sunday, and he was noncommittal afterward about the next couple of weeks. "It just depends on how the inflammation goes down and if we can find a brace that meets NCAA regulations".

With Edwards on the bench for the beginning of the second half, Butler immediately went back in front with a 7-2 run.

Robert Williams finished with 13 rebounds, helping the Aggies take a 50-36 edge while shooting 52 percent - including 10 of 24 from 3-point range.

Butler didn't have enough scoring threats in this tournament.

Tyus Battle had 17 points and Oshae Brissett scored 15, lifting 11th-seeded Syracuse to a 55-53 win over third-seeded Michigan State on Sunday and into the NCAA Tournament's Sweet 16. No other Bulldog was in double figures against Purdue. However, the fact remains that sophomore guard Carsen Edwards has emerged over the last couple of months as the most risky offensive player for Purdue. After turning the ball over with about 90 seconds remaining, he hustled back and blocked an attempted layup by Baldwin that would have tied the game. Butler shot nearly 50 percent for the game and outrebounded Arkansas 45-25.

The shot by Baldwin was from close to the same spot where Gordon Hayward's desperation attempt almost gave Butler the national championship in 2010 against Duke. The 7-foot-3 native of the Netherlands has played 16.6 minutes per game this season while regularly spelling Haas.

Butler begins the off-season and will have to replace Martin, who is a senior.

Packers to release star WR Jordy Nelson
However, Nelson struggled in 2017 as Rodgers missed significant time, finishing with 53 catches for 482 yards and six scores. He has twice caught more than 1,000 receiving yards in a season, but not since 2013 - his final year with the Saints .
