Trump's former strategist addresses France's far-right party congress

Steve Bannon, former Donald Trump strategist and architect of the USA president's nationalist, anti-immigrant campaign platform, will attend a Sunday congress of France's far-right National Front party.

Bannon also met privately with FN leader Marine Le Pen, 49, as she seeks to rebrand the party with a new name in an effort to broaden its appeal.

"Let them call you racists", Bannon told the anti-immigrant party's audience on Saturday in France, as The Washington Post reported.

"You fight for your country and they call you racist".

Bannon spoke at the National Front's annual convention in the French city of Lille after traveling through Europe in recent weeks for meetings with populist leaders of various parties. "The tide of history is with us, and it will compel us to victory after victory after victory".

Bannon added that the pivot was partly in order to prepare for the upcoming midterm elections.

West Ham v Burnley: Hammers can grab vital win in tight match
The players at this club are fully behind the cause and I think that will be enough to get the away side a win. The Hammers will be back at home this weekend as they take on Burnley in a must-win game for the home team.

Bannon was himself a high-profile departure from the White House last August and was written off by Trump earlier this year, who named him "sloppy Steve", following the publication in January of incendiary comments attributed to him.

A fresh New York Times profile gives some insight into Bannon's plans for taking over Europe, which range from training "an army of populist foot soldiers in the language and tools of social media", to spreading "populist websites in the image of Breitbart News".

Bannon's visit to France is the third stop on his European tour.

Len Pen wants to change the name of the National Front, the party co-founded by her father in 1972.

A younger leadership circle will likely emerge, but Marine Le Pen, the only candidate for president, will remain.

"Welcome to Steve Bannon who will address the our congress and will meet ML [Le Pen]".

Le Pen is seeking to make over her struggling party after her failed presidential bid previous year. "Let them call you nativists", he said.

In a surprise appearance on Saturday, former Trump adviser Steve Bannon addressed France's far-right National Front, telling a gathering of the party that they are "part of a worldwide movement that is bigger than France, bigger than Italy, bigger than Hungary - bigger than all of it".

The party's deputy president Louis Aliot was the one who shed light to the explosive news about Bannon's speech on the first day of the conference.

The party conference in Lille will also feature a vote as to whether the elder Le Pen can keep his title as the party's honorary president.

Likewise, Le Pen was a prominent contender for the French presidency in May 2017, but she lost to Emmanuel Macron in a landslide vote.

"They don't understand that we defend the same ideas, in the education field for her and in politics for me", she said.

Not right now, Mickelson tells Mexico Championship leader Sharma
(I) obviously made a few mistakes on the greens but the greens are tough this week so I think everyone's making a few mistakes. Justin Thomas got it a year ago when he made an ace in the inaugural Mexico Championship, and Ross Fisher got it on Saturday.
