Jerry Brown said Tuesday that his state has reached an agreement in principle with the Pentagon to deploy National Guard personnel to the border, hours after President Donald Trump accused the Democrat on Twitter of endangering public safety by insisting that the troops refrain from immigration enforcement.

Some of Brown's troops may be deployed this month and are expected to stay until at least September 30, Brown said. But Vitiello emphasized that California may contribute in other ways must still be worked out.
