National Football League owner makes offer to buy Wembley

"We can confirm that the FA has received an offer to buy Wembley Stadium", an FA statement read. The offer is claimed to total as much as £800 million, although the FA has not disclosed any details.

"It [the purchase of Wembley] would deliver another -- and very significant -- asset and local revenue source that would further strengthen our investment in London, which as everyone knows is crucial to the Jaguars' continued sustainability in Jacksonville".

The potential sale of Wembley Stadium to the owner of Fulham FC and the Jacksonville Jaguars would be a landmark deal in United Kingdom sport. If, as suggested receipts from its more prestigious seats and corporate hospitality (Club Wembley) are also protected, the FA would still get a sizeable income from the stadium.

The FA says its board was informed of the offer at a meeting on Thursday. Whether or not the deal goes through, rest assured that the FA Cup final and semi-finals will continue to be held at Wembley Stadium.

The news of a proposal from Pakistani-American businessman Khan, who also owns National Football League franchise Jacksonville Jaguars, broke through major media outlets on Thursday lunchtime. The recent FA Cup semi-finals followed on successive days, which has always been considered the norm - as has allowing the likes of Lincoln and Shrewsbury to go head-to-head on the Hallowed turf in the final of the much-maligned Checkatrade Trophy which saw a crowd of 41,261 head to Wembley.

The current deal agreed by the FA with EE expires in 2020.

Shahid Khan has made a bid worth up to £1billion to take over England's national stadium. The Jaguars are more viable because of their annual London game and it's helped them reaffirm their investment to Jacksonville.

However, with one of those owners in control of the stadium, the Jaguars or other teams could visit more often to play the games which have proved a success both among British fans and morning viewers on American television.
