Trump Rages Against Comey Over Claims In New Book

"It was my great honor to fire James Comey", Trump tweeted.

Former FBI director James Comey says his belief that Hillary Clinton would win the 2016 presidential election played a role in the way he handled the investigation into her use of a private email sever as secretary of state.

Comey's comments come in an interview excerpt, below, released by ABC News Saturday. Comey will discuss his firing in an interview with "20/20" tonight. CNN's Anderson Cooper will host a town hall with Comey on April 25.

Details of Comey's book are leaking out as he prepares for a full-scale media tour next week.

In true Trump fashion, the president punched back hard on Twitter unleashing a rare double tweet.calling Comey "a weak and untruthful slime ball".

Trump and his allies have already launched a counterattack.

Syria invites chemical weapons inspectors to probe attack claims
Instead, they have in recent investigations gathered blood samples from victims and interviewed witnesses outside Syria. Fighting between the army and rebels escalated and by August 2012 the conflict had become a full-blown civil war.

The exclusive interview is Comey's first since being fired from the Federal Bureau of Investigation by Trump.

CNN reported Friday that the publisher of Comey's book is printing 850,000 copies because of expected high demand.

"Unbelievably, James Comey states that Polls, where Crooked Hillary was leading, were a factor in the handling (stupidly) of the Clinton Email probe", Trump tweeted.

The president's tweet about Comey and Loretta E. Lynch appears to reference a part of the book in which Comey says the then-attorney general was conflicted on the Clinton investigation because of unspecified classified information that he said he was aware of - and that Lynch wanted him to call the probe a "matter".

Comey went on, saying Trump is "ego-driven and about personal loyalty", comparing the President a mafia boss.

The publicity tour - and the book - will be the first time the American public has heard extensively from Comey since his explosive testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee in June of a year ago. That helped Trump and hurt Clinton, not the other way around.

Russian Federation warns USA against Syria strike
Both Russia and Syria are now inviting inspectors from the global chemical weapons watchdog into the country to investigate. Russia's claim came hours after the Pentagon denied Syrian media reports that the USA conducted the airstrikes in Syria.

Trump, who has taken to Twitter to blast Comey in the past, began a new round of social media attacks on Friday when he tweeted that Comey was a "proven LEAKER & LIAR".

"The president said, 'I need loyalty, I expect loyalty.' I didn't move, speak, or change my facial expression in any way during the awkward silence that followed".

Comey characterizes the situation as surreal. I don't remember spelling it out, but it had to have been. "Virtually everyone in Washington thought he should be fired for the bad job he did-until he was, in fact, fired", Trump wrote on Twitter.

As usual, however, Trump's Sunday tweets didn't just stick to one topic.

Asked how freakish that meeting with Trump was, Comey said: "Very weird". Trump did, however, tie the firing to a Russian Federation probe that Comey was leading in a May interview with NBC's Lester Holt.
