Amazon to show 20 Premier League matches a season from 2019

Amazon has secured rights to show Premier League games from the 2019/20 season according to The Telegraph's Chris Williams.

Following confirmation of the Amazon deal, the Premier League have been criticised on social media for adding a third network to their list of television subscribers, with fans now being asked to pay approaching €100-a-month to watch all live matches.

The other unsold package of 20 matches was bought by BT Sport for £90m, taking their total to 52 games.

Andy Haworth, BT Consumer's managing director for content and strategy, said: "We're delighted to be able to offer our customers even more Premier League matches and to create exciting midweek nights of top-flight Premier League football action".

Specifically, the vast online retailers will show one entire round of midweek matches in early December and one round of matches over the Christmas bank holiday.

Cristiano Ronaldo feels 'betrayed' by Real Madrid
Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has apparently made the " irreversible decision " to finally leave the club this summer. According to another report , Ronaldo became more unhappy after his agent Jorge Mendes met with the club on Wednesday.

"Sky and BT are established Premier League partners and provide first-rate coverage of the competition through their live-match broadcasts and comprehensive programming", said Scudamore.

Amazon Prime, which includes free delivery on purchases as well as music and video content, costs 79 pounds ($106) a year in Britain.

While only a handful of games, Amazon's acquisition is a further sign of its push into live sports broadcasting, a strategy for luring subscribers that threatens United Kingdom pay-TV incumbents Sky Plc and BT Group Plc.

"[We] instead view this as a way to boost both retention and take-up of the Amazon Prime package rather than Amazon looking to become a Pay-TV operator", Whittaker added.

Sky will show the most amount of Premier League football, having previously won 128 matches per season for the same time period.

Scott Disick, Sofia Richie Split After He Cheats on Her

The Premier League have confirmed that global revenue is set to be distributed based on league finish, with the ratio rising from 1.6.1 to 1.8.1.

Neither Amazon nor the Premier League said how much the company paid for the rights.

The deal is an important milestone for Amazon, but it represents only a fraction of the larger Premier League pie.

These two remaining packages of rights were specifically created to appeal to the internet giants such as Amazon, Netflix, Apple, Facebook and Google as online streaming continues to rise in popularity.

"This new agreement will continue that trend with a subtle change that further incentivises on-pitch achievement and maintains the Premier League's position as the most equitable in Europe in terms of sharing central revenues".
