A fire reported Tuesday in a part of Colorado known for its ski resorts has forced the evacuation of more than 1,300 homes. County and state roads and USA highways that cross Forest Service lands will not be affected by this order.

Accurate mapping of the fire size has proven hard due to weather conditions and the rapid fire growth; however, the fire is now estimated to be 2,300 acres or about 3.6 square miles.

No one has been hurt and no structures have burned down.

Gov. John Hickenlooper said the state was allocating many resources for the fires in the states.

"I guess it has been like this, so it's not a big surprise", Jonathan Hidalgo, 18, said while starting a hike on La Luz Trail in 90-degree temperatures on Monday.

Crews continue an aggressive air and ground response on Wednesday to contain the fire and protect homes in the area. Growth this afternoon was primarily to the east.

As of 9 p.m. Sunday, the fire was roughly estimated at 100 acres and there is no containment. It's only 15 percent contained, according to the National Forest Service. On Sunday, efforts were focused on evacuation, public safety and fire assessment. The State of Wyoming Type III helicopter is also on site. Multiple communities and private property in-holdings are within a five mile radius of the fire.

The situation was better in central Washington, where authorities lifted evacuation orders or warnings for about 50 residents as crews work to contain a wildfire burning grass and brush.

Residents of almost 860 homes were ordered to flee on Sunday, bringing to about 2,000 the number of dwellings placed under evacuation, said spokeswoman Megan Graham for La Plata County, Colorado.
