He told The Sun newspaper that May's plan would "probably kill the deal" as it would mean the USA "would be dealing with the European Union" instead of with the UK.

Amid several protests over Trump's presence in the UK, the U.S. leader held a joint press conference with UK Prime Minister Theresa May, 61, earlier today.

In the incendiary interview, with the Sun newspaper, the U.S. leader criticised Mrs May's handling of Brexit negotiations, hailed Boris Johnson - who quit the cabinet earlier this week - as a future and "great Prime Minister" and said there was too much immigration in Europe.

Still, Trump did not back away from his comments, reaffirming that he would handle Brexit differently than May and saying he believes that Johnson, May's chief political rival in her own party who resigned from her Cabinet this week over the issue, "would be a great prime minister". He criticized the US President over his tweets following the terror attacks in London previous year.
